My name is Yassin Ibrahim
I was born in Ethiopia in the place called Jimma , Haro we call ourselves Oromo, however, in some literature you may
find they called us Galla. We spoke Oromiffa or Afaan Oromo. The traditional religion in our locality are Islam and Christianity.
Many Oromos practice the traditional religion parallel with Islam or Christianity.
If you visit Oromo, youll find our climate
is good mild on higher altitude, warm and wet to the east and west. Our dishes are Buddena (Biddena) with Itto, Cumbboo, Kashii,
Caccaabsaa, Marqaa, Mooqa, Bunaqalaa, Cuukkoo, Mullu or Shuumoo, Basso or Bacho and of course our main agriculture are Wheat,
Barley, Xaafi, and various agricultural products including Coffee that grows wild in some areas. We also have our own natural
resources, Gold, Platinum, Sulphur, Iron, Silver, etc. Oroma area is around 600,000 sq.km that is about twice the size of
Italy with the population of around 25 million.
Ethiopia is a nation made up of many different ethnic groups, one of which
is our place Oromo. You may have heard a nearly continuous struggle has taken place in freedom and power, it would make the
difference in shaping their present and future. At the final analysis I believe that all African problems are rooted
in disrespect for cultural heritage, which includes good and bad. History must be valued if
we want the tomorrow to value us today. We are not hostages of the past only when we do not try to rewrite the history. I
would rather see Oromo intellectuals writing books about our history.
